A lot of imagination in sci-fi - as those covers show us. Thanks for sharing them.

My pleasure, they certainly have some great artwork, if anything I I think these are better than the Fantasy and Sci Fi ones. There's something about older sci-fi images, today they all seem to be ultra realistic. I guess it's just the fashion, like Art deco spaceships were the fashion in the 20s. While I like a bit of gritty realism as much as anyone, I also love the fun of art-deco sci fi and the huge tail fins and chome of 50s spaceships, the bubbling bottles of strange coloured liquid and the lightening conducters, etc, etc..... Anyway here's the next handful July 72 October 72 December 72

Do you know what I think all those covers have in common? It's as though they're personally inviting the reader to escape reality for a short time and enjoy the wonders of sci-fi.
Years ago, I read an article about how the likes of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers were popular, one of the reasons being that they were a great escape for people living through the Great Depression.
I think escapism is important and that's probably the reason I've always enjoyed sci-fi and fantasy. It was always a pleasure to escape reality for a while, particularly as an adult.
