What are you reading at the moment? Any books/novels/comics/magazines that you'd like to recommend? This is the thread to do so... In keeping with the general theme of this forum, I'll kick off with my recent comic reading but I'll come back regarding my recent novels in a later post. I've just finished Dynamite Entertainment's 'reimagining' of Galactica 1980; a much darker version of what could have happened, but still featuring all the recognisable characters from the series. Great fun, but certainly not the lightweight fluff of the tv series; regular characters die here. My only criticism is that I read the whole 4-issue series in under an hour. Did the promised sequel, Galactica 1981, ever get published, I wonder? Next up for me are the recent new versions of The Bionic Man/Woman, Alan Quartermain and Buck Rogers, as well as the new Tarzan and John Carter series currently in publication. Has anyone read any of these? I'm currently also reading Dark Horse's King Conan series and am on the early issues of the Red Sonja revival which is promising. Also working my way through Straczynski's Spider-Man run. Great stuff!

That Galactica 1980 looks good, I read all the original Marvel comics over on HTMLComics and while they were pretty light hearted, they were great fun.
Thanks to you I'm having a bit of a Punisher-fest at the moment, I'm working my way through those early appearances and I've just got another Punisher Max TRP that I started today. As with you mention above the biggest (only) problem I have with these TRPs is that I read them too quickly, I have to force myself to put them down or they're over before you know what's happened.
Away from the comics I'm still working my way through the Bond books, just finished the torture that was The Spy Who Loved Me, God that was awful. On Her Majesty's Secret Service has started out much better. Also reading a very thick book about the KGB in the 80s. Bit of an eye opener that, I always thought the Bond film stuff was far fetched, but the reality isn't far off.

I've never read The Spy Who Loved Me so can't really comment on it, but I loved OHMSS. It took a few chapters for me to be really gripped; and it must be a good 20 years since I last read it but it remains to this day my favourite 007 novel (of those I've read, at least- I've no excuses because I own a fullset - twice- physically and on my Kindle) It just got to a point though where I'd rather re-read an old favourite than try a new one, and so have never got round to completeing the series. I really should give them another go!

I read loads on holiday, including:
Sworn Sword by James Aitchison about a French knight in post 1066-Britain getting mixed up in mystery and intrigue concerning traitors to the cause and the mystery of the whereabouts of King Harold's body...gripping stuff.
Also the new Blakes 7 novel, The Forgotten, which I loved... it often felt like a greatest hits sort of story as so many of the concepts and situations felt so familiar, but because the writers got the characters spot-on and knew exactly where the characters were (development-wise) at this point in the series, this was so enjoyable that it really didn't matter. Hopefully this bodes well for future books in the series...
Star Trek: The Motion Picture...this was the first time I read this novelisation for 25/30 years, it was a favourite of mine in the pre-video age and still stands up well today
Doctor Who: Deep Blue by Jonathon Morris..one of the many Past Doctor BBC novels I haven't got round to reading yet. In this one the 5th Doctor meets the Brigadier for a UNIT story set between The Green Death and The Time Warrior! It's just whetted my appetite for more!

Used to love those BBC Doctor Who novels. I just bought the odd one every now and then, rather than any effort to get a collection together. I tended to go for the 8th Doctor stories, though I have a few from the 7th Doctor. I think I've got around 15 on my shelf, I regret not buying more, but at the time I was much more interested in spending my meager income on DW videos. I'm always thinking about having another look at some of them, but I'm quite a slow reader and have so many other books to read I never quite get round to it.
