What a controversial title that was. Never had any effect on me, though, even from childhood I accepted violent fiction for what it was, it didn't make me want to do violent things. I'm sure most other people could say the same thing.
I remember the Hook Jaw strip. Boy, that shark had some staying power, I don't think it ever got killed, but it killed off a lot of characters.

Action is still a controversial title yet. My image hosts, Photobucket, have deleted a copy of the cover of issue 36 from the above selection calling it an offensive image. It has a swastika on the cover, and a soldier standing in front of a tank with dead bodies in the foreground.

The thing is, in a comic featuring a villain, you will see villains doing, well, villainous things.
There was a DC villain called Captain Nazi who clashed with the likes of Captain Marvel. Yet his imagery was never glorified, he was shown as the immoral and wicked individual he was.
If you're going to show good triumphing in comics, well you have to show evil, warts and all.
