It just dawned on me - it's 2011, which means the current Avengers title, called Avengers Unconquered (previously Avengers United) has been going in the UK since 2001.
What most impresses me about the popularity of the Avengers titles over the years is that there's never really been any other presence to help sell the comics, they've sold on their own merits.
What I mean by that is, one could argue that the TV exploits of the Hulk and Spider-Man (both live-action and animated) *may* have helped sales of their UK titles, but with the exception of maybe one or two short-lived cartoons (none of which received much coverage in the UK), the various Avengers titles have had no TV shows or movies to help the titles.
I guess that means The Avengers, on their own merits, are a popular group of heroes. I just wish DC Comics' Justice League of America could have had similar success in the UK.
